We played a lovely wedding ceremony for Devin and Theresa at Cottonwood Presbyterian Church this afternoon. Devin's sister is my close friend; we go back many many years, to junior high school! So when she learned that her brother did not have plans for music during his ceremony, she called us. Anna and Michelle both gave birth to beautiful baby girls very recently, so Brittany and Marie subbed for them. We love our dependable substitutes! And Brittany is also a close friend of the groom's sister!

We played Pachelbel's Canon in D for the wedding party's procession and Arioso by Bach for the bride. With the church's acoustics, the solo violin was gorgeous! At the presentation of the newly married couple, we played Mendelssohn's Wedding March.

We always enjoy playing at Log Haven in Millcreek Canyon. Even on a hot July evening, Joanna and Steve's outdoor wedding was a delight. The abundant shade and the cool canyon breeze couldn't have been more perfect.

For their ceremony, we sat under this regal evergreen. We played Handel's La Rejoussance for the procession of the three flower girls and one ring bearer, and the bride and groom, who descended the steps together.

We played Purcell's Trumpet Tune for the recessional, then a few more celebratory pieces while they took photos and moved to the outdoor patio for dinner.

We had a great time accompanying the meal, and an even better time eating it! Yes, the bride and groom invited the quartet to take a break and enjoy some dinner. We all agreed that it was perhaps the very best wedding meal we have ever eaten. Delicious!

For the couple's first dance, we played John Lennon's Grow Old With Me. They foxtrotted around the table and kissed when their guests tapped their water glasses. It was a beautiful wedding. Thanks, Joanna and Steve, for asking us to be a part of it! Best wishes to you.

University of Utah Convocation

Today, we returned to Meili's alma mater to play for the University of Utah College of Engineering Convocation. We were fortunate to have a few friends among the graduates, including our violist's husband and the husband of a violinist who substituted with us a few months ago. (Our violist Michelle asked Marie to fill in for her in order to be able to support her husband as a member of the audience. Sam substituted for Anna.)

We sat on the stage and welcomed the graduates during their processional with several pieces of light, happy music. After listening to the speakers, we played through much of our repertoire while accompanying the presenting of the diplomas. The graduates' recessional was so quick that we only had time to play one piece, but it was my very favorite part of the event. Rarely do we encounter a situation where Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik is appropriate, but the graduates' recessional just happened to be the perfect moment for this exciting, up-beat, slightly raucous number.

This was our view of the happy couple's ring ceremony festivities on the 9th floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. We played 2 special pieces for them. One was a processional composed especially for them by Steven Smith and the other was the Beatles "All You Need is Love" for their recessional. Prior to the ceremony we provided prelude music and afterward played as the wedding attendees wished their congrats to the bride and groom.

Thanks to Leisha who filled in for Meili (who just had her baby). Leisha is also pregnant so we had 3 expectant mothers performing once again!

Soft, dense snowflakes were falling as we left the Orangerie, but that didn't discourage the bride and groom from continuing with their photo shoot in the gardens.

Hanna and Adam's wedding was lovely and happy. Held before giant east-facing windows which captured the chilly beauty of the Wasatch Mountains, the ceremony was officiated by Bishop John Bytheway. I clearly remember a fireside that I attended as a teenager at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, where this local religious leader entertained us with stories of teenage angst and self-acceptance.

As we were preparing to begin our prelude music, Bishop Bytheway approached us to discuss the logistics of the ceremony. As it was his first time conducting a wedding, and definitely not our first time playing at one, we were able to give him a few tips! Our 9 years of experience paid off today when Cathy suggested that his concluding words be an introduction of the happy couple as the new "Mr. and Mrs..."

Meili plans to have her baby in two days, but she loves playing weddings so much that she decided to keep today's appointment. Anna is also pregnant. And today, Michelle announced to the group that she is also going to have a baby! So 75% of Strings of Elegance is now pregnant!

We were honored to provide the music for the wedding of Brian and Hadley this weekend. They had a beautiful Catholic wedding ceremony at the historic St. Mary's Old Town Chapel in Park City, Utah. As the wedding party walked down the aisle, we played Someone to Watch Over Me. And for the bride's processional? Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve! It is always fun for us to learn a song by special request. It makes the ceremony so personal.

Brian and Hadley looked radiant together, and so happy. Congratulations and best wishes to the newlyweds!

Tonight we were honored to provide the music for a wedding ceremony and reception of one of the kindest couples we have ever met! We played the music for the ceremony from the bride's dressing room where a balcony overlooks the gathering area below. For the reception, we moved downstairs to a more central location where we could witness the comings and goings of the guests as we played. Together with their children, Shelli and Steve are now a family of nine!

St. Regis Hotel ~ Deer Valley Resort in Park City

Funicular: it looks like a rollar coaster but it goes really slow and shuttles hotel and wedding guests in a big elevator type contraption up and down the mountain side.

Our ride up the funicular with all our instruments and music.

It was a lovely outdoor wedding ceremony. But don't let the picture fool you. There was much wind and rain.

We took shelter under a large umbrella. One of us even played up on the rocks in order to stay out of the rain. It was eventful, but we pulled it off without a hitch. Afterward, we played for the cocktail hour (which got moved indoors).

Rebekah found a new friend!

It was so fun to have Rebekah (my sister) back for a gig so many years later - she was a member of the quartet from 2002-2004 before she moved to Tucson, AZ to get her violin performance undergraduate degree. She is now working on her Master's in Violin Performance in Conneticut at the Hart School of Music so it was special to have her in town to play with us!

Today we played for a lovely wedding at the Red Cliffs Ranch in Heber City. First we played for a cocktail hour. Then we hopped in a van that took us to a beautiful meadow for the ceremony. Oksana and Robert were surrounded by family and friends in a large yet intimate wedding circle.

Afterward, we played for another cocktail hour and a leisurely dinner which was followed by dancing with a live band. The wedding guests were enjoying themselves so much that the evening plans were delayed quite a bit - we were asked to play for an 2 additional hours until dinner was complete.

After we finished, we packed up to head home. But before we left we happened upon the prettiest porta-potty we'd ever seen.

The kitchen staff also welcomed us to enjoy a bite to eat before our long ride home. As a mother of two young boys, I don't remember the last time I stayed out past 1am. Thanks Anna, Marie, and Chelise for a 'randomly fun yet totally exhausting' evening!

Tonight we played a lovely wedding at Market Street Grill in Cottonwood. The ceremony was held outside in the heavy July heat, but no one seemed to mind. We were the lucky ones who were placed in the shade. The privilege of being part of others' wedding ceremonies never gets old for me. As someone who just celebrated her 7th wedding anniversary, I always feel grateful that I get to be reminded by the officiant of the things that are truly important. Today, Luke and Kelli's minister reminded me never to take the marriage relationship for granted, and that marriage is about putting your spouse's needs before your own. What an important thing to remember!

After we played the Wedding March, we followed the guests inside to accompany them during the cocktail hour. I was having such a great time playing first violin (I usually play second) that our remaining time passed very quickly and I almost missed our end time! The bride and groom then graciously invited the quartet to indulge in the delicious buffet, which we did. I was planning to buy a cup of Market Street's famous clam chowder on my way out, but a sit down dinner was so appreciated!

Congratulations Luke and Kelli! You make a gorgeous couple!

Tonight we played for a lovely reception in honor of a gorgeous couple who are getting married tomorrow. What a great idea to have your party the night before the big day!

We played under a web of string lights, the kind that make you want to live your entire life outside at dusk. The bride and groom stood among a whimsical, yet romantic backdrop of large white paper lanterns. We played some of our favorite selections as three young girls danced their little hearts out, right in the middle of the square. They danced the way I used to dance in front of my parents' large bedroom mirror, carefree and exuberant, but they did it in front of the entire wedding party with no qualms. We then played a song called Three Little Maids and told them it was for them.

The bride and groom requested that we play Over The Rainbow, which we did sometime during the night. Then, as we were leaving, we heard another rendition of the beautiful song playing over the speakers while they danced together and with their parents.

Today we played a wedding at the gorgeous venue of Snow Basin Resort. We rode the gondola high up on the mountain to Needles Lodge for the ceremony uniting Carmen and Jared. We had the privilege of accompanying Carmen's brother Tab, an opera student at Weber State, while he sang You Raise Me Up, a piece we learned especially for him.

Then we traveled back down to Earl's Lodge to play during the cocktail hour and reception. Despite a gentle breeze (which we battled with clothes pins holding down our music), it was the perfect day for an outdoor wedding in the canyons!

Lion House Luncheon

Today we played for a luncheon at the Lion House on Temple Square in SLC. The theme of the wedding was Disney Princesses. We played the music from Sleeping Beauty along with other popular love songs. The tables were adorned with princess figurines and the bride looked just like a princess!
After playing for the luncheon, I joined my husband, my toddler, and my 12-day old baby for lunch at the pantry in the basement of the Lion House. It was a beautiful day on Temple Square!

Rained Out at the Wight House

When she planned her wedding for June 10th, this bride probably thought she would have the typical fantastic weather of early summer in Utah. However, the weather man had different plans. He sent, not only rain, but sheets of it. And hail. And wind. Marci did not get to have her wedding on the roof of the Wight House in Bountiful; however, it turned out to be a perfectly lovely ceremony... inside.

Today we played for a celebratory service at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepard in Ogden for Pentecost Sunday. At different points in the program, we were joined by an organist, trumpeter, full choir, and soprano soloist!

We prepared two special selections for the service. After rehearsing for an hour with the choir, we were ready to begin.

We made a new friend. Glori has an extraordinary soprano voice.

Afterwards, we joined the congregation for a "grand fiesta" celebration.

Tonight we played for an elegant quinceanera in honor of the beautiful Maria Carolina. We played our favorite selections in the middle of the dance floor while the birthday girl, her family, and all her guests enjoyed their lovely dinner at The Grand America.

We played for her older sister's quinceanera a year and a half ago. At that time, Meili was 9 months pregnant. This time, Cathy is the one who is counting down the days in her pregnancy!

Tonight we played the longest gig we've ever played: 4 hours. I expected to be sore and exhausted when we finished, but we were having too much fun to notice the time!

At Eldredge Manor in Bountiful, we first played for Kimberly and Kenneth's beautiful, festive wedding ceremony. The bridesmaids were dressed in holiday red, and the bride looked like a fairytale princess. It seemed as if the happy couple were in their own private world as they exchanged their vows.

We then played some of our favorite selections while the guests enjoyed their dinner. After the elegant meal, it was time to dance! Usually when a couple schedules time for dancing, that's when the string quartet is dismissed and much louder and faster music is played from the loudspeakers. However, it was our pleasure to continue playing on the dance floor, and we had a wonderful time! The wedding guests actually danced, but no one spent more time on the dance floor than Kimberly and Kenneth.

Tonight we traveled up a narrow, winding, snowy canyon road to play for Ana Paula and Brooks' wedding celebration in Park City. It was held for a small group of family and friends in an elegant, yet cozy, residence at the top of White Pine Canyon Road. As we entered the gated community, called The Colony, the man at the gate instructed us to take a left at the fork. So up the steep road we went, taking a left at the prominent fork. As we climbed the mountain, the road became snowier and the white fog became thicker. It was at this point that we thanked our lucky stars that Meili was driving her Escape with 4-wheel drive. We climbed higher and higher, without seeing any numbers; we were looking for #97. Finally, we saw an address, #160. Hmmm... We continued our climb, passing higher numbers on our way up. When we reached the 200s, we decided to turn around. We must have taken the wrong fork.

So we began the icy descent. After a few white-knuckled miles, we made it back to the fork, where the directions were clearly marked... under a thick coat of snow, of course. We turned right, did some more slow and careful climbing, and made it to #97 just in time.

Tonight, we played for a scenic ceremony at The Pointe in Salt Lake City. The Pointe is a beautiful penthouse on the top floor of the Huntsman Cancer Institute by the University of Utah. The ceremony began at sunset and the view was spectacular. The guests enjoyed the warm glow of the November sun that shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides. The Wasatch Mountains stood majestically on our left, and the entire Salt Lake Valley was laid out on our right.

The wedding ceremony was officiated by the bride's brother. What a wonderful personal touch!

Tonight, we played for Lisa and Chris' wedding reception at Arbor Manor in Taylorsville. It is often the case that the children in attendance show much more interest in our music than the adults, but it was especially apparent tonight. It may be because it is more socially acceptable for children to stare, or perhaps that children are more observant than their parents. Whatever the case, we had many little admirers tonight.

There was this handsome boy in his argyle vest.

She came over to visit after her waltz.

RIP Quartet Bag

We carry our stands and music in a heavy, large, red bag with wheels. Because I have space in my garage and my trunk, I have lately been the designated bag handler. I always thought it was an awkward thing to haul around because it is difficult to lift into the car, and stairs are always an issue. Despite this, it was a loyal and helpful bag, and it had a beautiful life... until Meili's husband ran over it.

For the last few gigs, one wheel has been barely hanging on, but today, while we were dragging it up some stone steps, it gave up the ghost. We quickly passed through the five stages of grief.

Our second wedding today was at beautiful Memory Grove. I love playing at this historic and stately location. The wedding guests sat facing this grand structure.

The minister was eloquent and the bride and groom were glowing. But my favorite part of this special ceremony was the flower girl. (In the photo below, she is sitting on her grandma's lap on the front row, behind the bridesmaid in yellow.) She walked down the aisle just ahead of the bride and ceremoniously dropped all her flower petals right in front of the minister. Then, as the bride stepped over the petals and took her place alongside her groom, the little lady said in a proud not-whisper, "I dropped my flowers for you!" When the bride smiled and nodded, she continued, "Why do you have to walk on flowers?" At this point, she wanted to keep having a conversation with the bride, but everyone was trying to shush her, which made her innocent little lip stick out and her chin quiver. After being consoled by the bridesmaid in the yellow dress, she went to sit with her grandma, and she seemed to enjoy the rest of the ceremony.

After the minister finished asking the bride and groom if they would take the other as their lover, partner and friend, she addressed the flower girl, who walked to the front. The minister asked her if she would accept Allison as part of her family. She happily replied that she would. Then the minister asked the same of Allison, who agreed. This is the part of the ceremony that brought a tear to my eye. I hadn't realized she was the groom's daughter until then. It was so sweet.

Today was a special day for us; we played two weddings! The first was a festive outdoor wedding ceremony at a cute residence in Millcreek. The decorations were playful. The chocolate fountain, which was sitting about 2 feet behind us, was fragrant and tempting. And the ceremony was quick!

7 1/2 years ago, Strings of Elegance was invited to play for a charity dinner with Richard Paul Evans to raise funds for a new Christmas Box House. Paul Cardall was one of the featured musicians and I remember thinking how amazing he was at the piano. He did some improvisation with suggestions from the audience. A couple of years ago I discovered that we share the same aunt through marriage (she is also a fantastic pianist).

For a long time Paul needed a new heart and in September of 2009, he got one. This is him holding his old heart after surgery.

This weekend I was invited to play with a group of musicians from college for our friends wedding. KaraLyn and Richard, now married with 5 children, went to school with all of us at Ricks College (1997-1999). And then Elizabeth and Jennifer were both in my first quartet at Utah State University: All Occasions String Quartet (1999-2001). So this is us 10 years later...

On Labor Day, Kaylie and Luis had a beautiful, religious wedding ceremony at The Castle (fka Castlebrook) in Layton. It was a nice day for an outdoor wedding; a gentle breeze complimented the mild temperature of late summer. During the ceremony, we enjoyed our view of this little guy:

The happy couple met seven years ago in drama class, where they played the part of husband and wife! (This little tidbit rang true with me; as a member of my high school choir and orchestra, I had many friends in drama.) They had three adorable flower girls and two dapper ring bearers. Three if you include the puppy who walked down the aisle on a leash between the other two.

After we finished playing, we were walking out as a mariachi band was walking in. Fantastic!

I was asked to play solo violin at Jessica and Robby's wedding at Tuscany restaurant in SLC. It turned out to be a gorgeous outdoor ceremony, even though the thunderclouds were threatening to burst above us. Just as I arrived to set up, it started sprinkling. Then it began to rain harder... and harder. And miraculously, it then cleared up just in time!

I played Bach sonatas and partitas, which are always nice for solo pieces. And I enjoyed wearing something besides concert black!

Tonight I had the immense privilege of playing for the wedding ceremony of one of my best friends. We played Over The Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz for the bride's processional. It was so fitting!

Here I am at Becky's bachelorette party: a cooking class at Sur La Table at the Gateway. I was so proud of my tomato florette!

The ceremony was held at A Wishing Place (the Make A Wish Foundation of Utah), where Becky works. She was gorgeous in her tea-length gown.

Aren't they a good-looking couple? Here they are, dancing to The (British) Office's version of If You Don't Know Me By Now. Classic!

Tonight we played for an outdoor ceremony at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City. In this case, the number of guests seemed to be related to the size of the wedding party. There were (I believe) eleven bridesmaids and groomsmen (!), followed by a very handsome ring bearer and sweet flower girl. There were so many guests that extra chairs had to be brought in before the ceremony could begin. This happy couple will be well supported in their new life together.

Wedding Reception

Tonight we played for a reception at the Farmington Arts Center. It was beautifully decorated and they had our quartet play on stage directly behind the wedding party who were being greeted by their many guests. It was fun for me to see, out of the corner of my eye, a lot of friends and acquaintances there that night. Even one of my violin student's families came. This was definitely a popular couple - the people just kept coming and coming...

Today we played for a beautiful ceremony at La Caille, an ornate, French oasis in the middle of the Utah desert. It was a warm summer day with blue skies and sunshine. Even the birds enjoyed the ceremony. This swan stood near us the whole time, as well as a fancy blue peacock. A rooster even joined in the fun by crowing throughout the ceremony.

Tonight we played for a beautiful, classy ceremony and reception at Stein Eriksen in Park City. The bride's dress was perhaps the prettiest I've ever seen, with intricate lace. It was stunning against her dark hair. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate as fully as a bride would hope. As we were playing prelude and the guests were being seated, fat drops began to fall from a lone dark cloud directly above us. We scooted underneath an umbrella that was supposed to be shading us from the hot July sun. Even as the sprinkle turned to a downpour, we continued playing until we noticed that our instruments were getting wet from all the splashing. We retrieved our (now soaked) cases and put our instruments away until the storm subsided, which was only about 10 minutes. After a quick towel-dry of all the chairs by the crew at Stein Eriksen, everyone again took their places and the ceremony began. To be honest, it was a nice break from the triple-digit temperatures we had come from in the valley. As the minister pronounced the couple husband and wife, a flock of white doves was released, and everyone (including the quartet) gasped in delight!

Tonight, we played for Katie and Chad's ring ceremony and reception at Eaglewood Golf Course in Bountiful. This is the view I had from the floor-to-ceiling window right next to me (with my chair in the reflection). Gorgeous!

My favorite part of the ceremony was watching this young man (in the blue shirt) on the back row with his giant camera. He was serious about getting some good shots! I hope the bride and groom paid him for his work.

At the reception, guests were encouraged to take a turn in the photo booth! Fun!

Today we played for a beautiful wedding ceremony in Holladay. It was held at the bride's parents' home on a secluded lot behind a 100 year-old rock wall. The light morning breeze provided a pleasant summer temperature, and the abundant mature trees supplied plenty of shade. It was a small, classy ceremony where all the guests dressed in black and white, and the bride wore a fabulously simple blush-colored gown.

It was the perfect day for a wedding.

Tonight, we played for an incredibly fun ceremony for Jenn & Josh at The Canyons Resort in Park City. The evening started off with an adventure: everyone rode the gondola up the mountain to the location of the ceremony.

The ceremony was held on a wooden bridge over a river. I have a feeling it was a little cool up there in the mountains for the L.A. crowd that attended, but everyone looked spectacular. The officiator was a friend of the couple, and, like Jenn & Josh, showed a wonderful sense of humor. He began the ceremony with, "Maah-waage!" Really! The happy couple also displayed their funny sides in their vows. The bride said, "I promise to always be willing to jump out of a garbage can in order to make you laugh." And the groom said, "I promise to always be willing to talk like Dr. Evil to make you laugh," which he said in Dr. Evil's voice. They had all the guests rolling, including us! It was a wonderful evening, and I have no doubt this couple will be laughing together for the rest of their lives.

We have played many weddings over the last 7 years, but this is one that we won't soon forget. Utah has seen an unseasonably wet June, and last night was no exception. As I watched the rain continue throughout the day, I kept wondering when it would stop. Usually, rainstorms only last about 7 1/2 minutes in our desert climate, but yesterday the rain kept coming.

About 30 minutes before the ceremony was set to begin, another wave of serious rain arrived, so we began our prelude music in the lodge. We sat in a small corner by the roaring fire in a room full of shawl-wrapped wedding guests. At the time of the scheduled ceremony, the host announced that a break in the storm was expected in about 30 minutes, so we planned to socialize in the lodge until then. Soon, glasses were being filled and the scent of wine permeated the room. And still, the sheets of water poured down.

Finally, as we could see no end to the deluge, everyone gathered on the patio outside, under a giant tarp. As puddles grew on the tarp, they poured out over the sides in heavy, sporadic waterfalls. A path was formed in the middle of the standing crowd of wedding guests, and rose petals sprinkled in a line leading to the minister. There were only two people sitting: a pretty woman in a wheelchair, and our cellist Thalia.

Despite the change in plans, the wedding guests seemed to have a nice time, and the gorgeous bride was smiling. The person I felt the most sorry for was the wedding planner; she had her work cut out for her last night! Our violinist Cathy said that she felt like a member of the string quartet on the Titanic as it was sinking.

We played for the Mrs. Utah Pageant Gala at LaCaille. This is Meili surrounded by the jungle of beautiful plants that are there.

On our way home from this lovely event, Michelle and Thalia realized they had the exact same snacks (fiber one chocolate chip bar and apple) - they are like twins!

This is me, Cathy (in the center), from my pageant days. Every time I attend a pageant event I am reminded of all the great times and wonderful opportunities I had as Miss Layton 1997.

The current Mrs. Utah, Emily Nelson, was at the Gala. She is a very impressive woman!

Alicia Warnock is the pageant director who contacted us about becoming sponsors for the Mrs. Utah Pageant. It was an honor to be a part of. The pageant is tonight and Strings of Elegance would like to wish all the pageant contestants the best of luck!

In December, we had the great pleasure of playing for a very special occasion - the quinceanera of a young lady named Maria. It was held in the beautiful ballroom of the Little America. All-Occasions String Quartet (1999-2001)

Strings of Elegance (2002-Current)

As 2008 comes to a close, I wanted to take time to reflect on the string quartet journey that has made Strings of Elegance what it is today. It all started at Utah State University where All-Occasions String Quartet was formed. Members of this group, in picture order above, were Elizabeth McFadden, Jenny Melville, Cathy Marlor (that's me on the couch), and Jennifer Cosman. We had so much fun playing at weddings from 1999-2001 that after graduation and moving away for a short while, I decided to form a new quartet in Davis County where I am originally from. This is when Strings of Elegance was established in February of 2002 during the heart of the SLC Winter Olympic Games. Our first group picture was taken in the snow. Our first members were, in picture order, Michelle Brown, Rebekah Butler, Shannon Talbot, and Cathy Marlor (that's me kneeling down). Later that year, Shannon became very busy with all her family responsibilities so she had to leave us. To take her place was Thalia Parmley, our fabulous young cellist who has been with us ever since.

Strings of Elegance was comprised of these four for several years. We had so many fun experiences including this trip that we took to Vernal, UT to play for a wedding there. On the way, we stopped in Heber to get some icecream. After the wedding we wanted to rehearse some Shostakovich for our summer concert but the hotel room wasn't big enough so we are now also known as the grocery store parking lot string quartet.

Rebekah (my little sis) decided to go away for college so our summer concert ended up being a farewell to her as she went off to persue her violin performance degree from the University of Arizona. When she becomes a world famous musician we keep reminding her that she got her big start with us!!!

We miss you Bekah Butler!

Anna joined us after Rebekah left and she stuck around for a few years. Whenever we play up at Park City Mountain Resort, we ride up the mountain in a truck or on the ski-lift and play in a beautiful mountain spot, perfect for scenic ceremonies. Afterward, we like to ride the Alpine slide back down. It is so much fun - especially in concert black! Sometimes when we are really lucky we get invited to eat fancy food after we play and we love being wined and dined. This particular dining picture was taken at LaCaille after we played for a charity event there. In addition to the Alpine slide and fancy dinners, we also had the opportunity to host a big Strings of Elegance party since one of our clients owned resort property that we got a free-night's stay in. But all good things eventually change and we lost Anna in the spring of 2007 when she decided to go on an LDS mission. It was a quick transition and we were sad to lose her but happy for the new direction her life was taking. Our last gig with her was up at Snow Basin (see picture below).

Meili Bell took over for Anna. She has proven to be a great asset to our quartet both as a musician and a savvy business woman. So this is our group now and I think we are all caught up to speed as we began our blog at the beginning of 2008. The final picture in this post is of a group dinner we had at my house with all of our husbands. We thank them for all of the support they give us as we go all over the state playing for all sorts of events. We also want to thank our clients for giving us the wonderful opportunities. Thank you!

On Saturday September 27th, we had the pleasure of playing for a beautiful, outdoor wedding at Red Butte Garden. We love playing at Red Butte because it it always so peaceful, fragrant, and visually stunning. We played for Heidi and Rob's garden ceremony, and then moved to the orangerie to accompany the bride and groom and their guests for their champagne toast and lunch.

What a gorgeous day for an autumn wedding!

We played for Laurel and Coury's outdoor wedding ceremony on Saturday, September 27th at the beautiful, rustic Log Haven in Millcreek Canyon. I especially enjoyed the drive up the canyon. It was the perfect weekend with unseasonably warm weather and gorgeous fall colors.

What a beautiful back yard to play in! Filling in for Meili was Maureen (on the left) and Steve (on the right) played cello for Thalia. We always appreciate good musicians that we can call on.

This was a fun reception to play for because it was located in the neighborhood in which I grew up. So I got to see people I knew as a child and haven't seen in years. I just wish I could have "caught up on old times" while I played (now that would have been some serious multi-tasking)!

On Saturday, we played for the ceremony and reception of Kayli & Ivan at Legacy Park in Syracuse. It was a scorcher!

On Thursday, we played at the beautiful Fragrance Garden at Red Butte for Melissa & Beau's ceremony. We sat near a honeysuckle plant, which smelled so sweet! Even though the temperatures that day were in the 90s, the gardens were pleasant and breezy.

Ward Valentine's Dinner

On February 16th we played for a ward dinner. They fed us dinner and even let us bring our husbands who we rarely get to play for! Ashlee substituted for Meili. The ward was so kind.
